Well, the basics are these. All website owners love and need traffic. Without traffic and in particular, targeted traffic then the website is really a waste of space and money.
Just like a traditional business. Let's take a shop for example. You may have a shop that sells blue widgets. If you have no customers coming through the door, it doesn't matter how big your widgets are, how unique they are, the shade of blue they are nor the price, if no-one wants blue widgets then you would soon go broke. The same goes for non targeted traffic, you could have one thousand people a day in your shop looking for red widgets, if you only sell blue ones, and then these customers are also of no use. You need targeted traffic for your business to survive and do well. Now if you had an unlimited supply of targeted traffic that were wanting blue widgets, at no advertising costs your business would do well - agree? Of course you do. This is where funded proposals come in. Your customer or prospect purchases a low cost service or product from you - at little profit to you. You use that profit to market to that prospect, so in essence, the cost to acquire this customer has been nil but we have now a customer who has dealt with us and is happy with what we provide. When we next offer this customer another product or service, they are more likely to purchase as we add value to their original purchase. ( we know all about added value "Would you like fries with that Sir?" ) We get to keep these new profits as the marketing cost to acquire this customer has already been met (by themselves).
